I EYE, monumental sculpture, 2022

Through the eyes of all the bygone civilizations, I view the kingdom of Commagene in Nemrut in my artwork titled “I EYE.” I think about overseeing and surveillance through traces. The protective and all-seeing metaphorical implications of the eye have permeated cultures of civilizations throughout history. In the new imaginary civilization, I apply this not with symbols like ancient Egypt, but with modern typography.

The mirrors of the work brings a new layer to the relationship that ancient civilizations established with the eye. “I observe and reflect”.

It is impossible to build a civilization that is independent of its roots on a deep-rooted history. If we are to build an imaginary civilization here, a reflection from the past must fall upon us.
