kuyruk / tail

Ece Eldek in collaboration with Emin Alper, installation and dialogue text, 2021

Installation: Ece Eldek, Dialogue text: Emin Alper

Artist, poet Ece Eldek and director, scriptwriter Emin Alper conversed on the concept of strange for the Ak-sayanlar series in the Art Unlimited magazine. The installation created by Eldek with an inspiration from their conversation is accompanied by Alper’s dialogue text. Alper’s dialogue text is voiced by Ceren Menekşedağ & Özgün Çoban. Depicting the fight between two characters each of which is trying to convince the other that it’s a part and extension of his tail, the installation discusses the desire to think nothing of the subjectivity and the independent will of the other through the tail. There’s also an installation of Eldek’s poem kuyruğun suçu ne (what is the crime of the tail), another interpretation of the strange and lost limb of the tail. The “tail” which is assumed to separate humans from animals, i.e. our violent instincts, has metaphorically turned into a word associated with all that is evil and brutal. This sentence on the wall enables us to think on the construction of humanity through the lost limb of the tail.
